The Chair in Front of the Door, Special Project (Permanent Installation), Joseph Kosuth, 2004

“Where one can stand, one can also sit. Not only children, but women too have their place on the doorstep—close to the earth, its traditions, and perhaps its deities. The chair in front of the door is already a sign of urban innovation. As for the unheard-of privilege of sitting at a café, that is enjoyed exclusively by men.”

— Walter Benjamin
