Cildo Meireles He is an internationally renowned Brazilian artist, known for his conceptual works that explore themes of politics, economics, and sensory perception through immersive installations and symbolic sculptures.
In 2002, he/she participated in the VII edition of Art to Art with Journey to the Centre of Sky and Earth, a monumental 40-metre staircase located in Siena's Orto de’ Pecci, a work that evoked the link between heaven and earth, between the transcendent and the terrestrial.
The following year, in 2003, he took part in the project ArtexVino = Water, creating the label for the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from the Avignonesi winery.
In 2022, he renewed his artistic and social commitment by donating three works – Shit Coin, Pietro Bo e This – on the occasion of the charity auction that funded the project Art for Reforestation. With her deeply critical and poetic language, Meireles continues to interrogate power structures and create works that question our perception of reality.
Cildo Meireles (Rio de Janeiro, 1948) is a Brazilian sculptor and artist, creator of immersive, multi-sensory installations through which he addresses social and cultural themes, including political oppression in Brazil. The first exhibition in Italy dedicated to the artist, curated by Vicente Todolí at Pirelli HangarBicocca, is a retrospective selection of the major installations produced from 1970 to the present day.
