Carsten Höller

Carsten Höller (Brussels, 1961) is an artist known for his interactive works that explore perception, play and sensory experience, creating installations that actively engage the public.

In 2009, he participated in the project Arte Pollino with RB Ride, una grande ruota panoramica dal movimento lentissimo installata a San Severino Lucano, nel Parco Nazionale del Pollino, un’opera che trasformava il tempo e la percezione dello spazio attraverso un’esperienza dilatata e meditativa.

In 2015, he was one of the main figures in the second edition of the project ArtexVino = Water, creating the label for Allegrini, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico D.O.C.G., joining their artistic language to the winemaking tradition. Also in 2015, they participated in a project for Venice Biennale, confirming his role as an experimenter in contemporary art.

In 2021, they generously donated the work Laboratory (Alexander Shulgin) for the project Art for Reforestation, reaffirming his commitment to environmental and sustainability initiatives. With his visionary and playful approach, Höller continues to challenge the boundaries between art, science, and sensory experience.

Carsten Höller (Brussels, 1961) German by origin, he lives and works in Stockholm. Having established himself in the art world in the 1990s, he has exhibited in important international institutions with numerous solo and group shows. Höller conceives of art as a cognitive tool and uses his works to transform individuals' sensory and emotional experience. He aims to disorient and provoke the viewer, altering traditional perceptual mechanisms. At first glance, the characteristic of his works is their ironic and playful aspect, but behind the innocent appearance, Höller introduces elements of doubt and uncertainty, capable of changing the ordinary perception of things. He creates situations or experiences that invite the public to actively participate.
