        "rendered": "<p class=\"\"><strong>Eko Prawoto<\/strong> (Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 1958) is an architect and artist known for his sustainable approach and commitment to valuing local architectural traditions. His practice combines natural materials and traditional techniques with a contemporary vision, creating works that engage deeply with the landscape and communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In 2003, Prawoto participated in <a href=\"https:\/\/artecontinua.org\/en\/project\/arte-allarte-viii-2003\/\"><strong><em>Art to Art VIII<\/em><\/strong>,<\/a> where has he carried out a project in <a href=\"https:\/\/artecontinua.org\/en\/project\/poesia-di-paglia-eko-prawoto-2003\/\"><em><strong>Buonconvento<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. The work, strongly linked to the local context, explored the relationship between architecture, nature, and memory, using simple materials and artisanal construction techniques to create a poetic and meaningful intervention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Eko Prawoto continues to distinguish himself through his work, which combines innovation, respect for tradition, and a strong social commitment, contributing to the redefinition of contemporary architecture's role within local and global communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Eko Prawoto<\/strong> (1958-2023) was an Indonesian architect and artist known for his humanistic and sustainable approach, deeply rooted in cultural traditions and natural materials. He gained international recognition for his project <em>The Transitory Place: A Housing Project for the Urban Poor in Yogyakarta<\/em>, presented at the 2000 Venice Architecture Biennale, which embodied the theme \u201cLess Aesthetics, More Ethics\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After graduating with a degree in Architecture from Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta in 1982 and obtaining a Master's degree from the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam in 1993, Prawoto began teaching at the Duta Wacana Christian University in Yogyakarta, where he worked for his entire life. Among his most celebrated projects is the exhibition space <em>Cemeti Art House<\/em>(1999), a simple yet innovative architecture, awarded by the Indonesian Architects Association as \u201cCultural Building\u201d in 2004.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Prawoto demonstrated his commitment to local communities after the devastating earthquake in Java in 2006, designing houses inspired by traditional Indonesian structures.<em>limasan<\/em>earthquake-resistant and built with recycled materials. This project enabled 65 homes to be rebuilt in under three months and was a finalist for the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture (2008-2010).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With a career spanning local and international projects, including the Gwangju Biennale (2002) and the Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale (2003), Prawoto has integrated natural materials like bamboo into iconic installations such as <em>Wormhole<\/em> (Singapore Biennale, 2013) and <em>Bale Kambang<\/em> (Europalia, Belgium, 2017). He demonstrated how tropical traditions can engage with modern architecture, celebrating the harmony between humanity and the environment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Prawoto has left a significant legacy, not only through his projects but also as an educator and thinker, inspiring generations with his commitment to architecture that represents the dignity and resilience of communities.<\/p>",
