His work spans sculpture, installations and performance, and is characterised by a mix of classical aesthetics and irreverent social criticism.

In 2000, Delvoye participated in Art at Art V with the work Marble Floor, a project that chose to be installed in the deconsecrated church of San Francesco in Montalcino. The artist created a classic-style inlaid floor, using a combination of different cured meats as tiles, an idea that challenges the conventions of the sacred and the profane, questioning traditional notions of beauty and value.

Wim Delvoye He grew up in Wervik, Flanders. He did not receive a religious upbringing but was influenced by the Roman Catholic architecture that surrounded him. As he grew, his love for drawing eventually led him to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Ghent). Delvoye began by painting on wallpaper and carpets, colouring existing patterns and challenging the trend for vibrant free expression in the art world of the time. After 1990, specialists directed by Delvoye executed most of his work. In 1992, Delvoye received international recognition with the presentation of his “Mosaic” at Documenta IX, a symmetrical display of glazed tiles featuring photographs of his own excrement.
