Cai Guo-Qiang's project for Colle di Val d’Elsa was realized in 2001 on the occasion of the VI edition of Arte all’Arte and consists of building a new museum – UMoCA – under the arches of the Ponte San Francesco. UMoCA is closely linked to the natural, historical, and cultural context of the city and seeks to build a dialogue with the local community. Like all museums, this one will also have a director, a curator, and a staff, but it will not require internal lighting or air conditioning. A luminous neon sign (with the acronym UMoCA) will be created and hung on the bridge whenever an exhibition is organized there.
