RB Ride is a carousel composed of 12 gondolas and has a pedestal/base diameter of 16.75 m. Its minimum height is 3.50 m, and its maximum height is 10.50 m. The carousel is colorful, with seats that rotate in a circle and simultaneously tilt toward the ground, completing one rotation every fifteen minutes. With this installation, the artist subverts the primary function of the carousel and the audience's expectations by altering the movement of the apparatus: he slows down the rotation to deny the centrifugal force, which is usually responsible for exhilaration and euphoria, and for a purely physical perception of the experience. Through the slowed rotation, an effect of instability and unease is produced—perhaps even stronger than with the machine's usual movement—and the viewer is invited to experience the surrounding nature from a very particular point of view. “… the beauty of the landscape and the beauty of the carousel blend and become one.” The carousel becomes a tool to reclaim the value of time, reflection, and contemplation, compelling the viewer who undergoes the experience to question their own way of perceiving reality and their certainties.
