Jimmie Durham was an American-born artist and activist whose work has ranged from sculpture to performance, often addressing issues related to the identity, culture, politics and history of indigenous peoples. His work is known for its use of humble and often found materials, creating works that invite critical reflection on power structures and colonialism.
In 2003 he participated in Art to Art VIII with a project for Colle Val d'Elsa, where he integrated his artistic sensibility with the local context, reflecting on the link between the landscape and the cultures that inhabit it.
Durham also took part in the fundraising Art for Reforestationdonating the work Over the Mountain for charity.
