On October 26, Associazione Arte Continua inaugurated an exhibition by Giovanni Ozzola at Manifattura Tabacchi, a major self-taught and multidisciplinary artist on the international scene.
The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 2 PM to 8 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 12 PM to 7 PM. Closed on Mondays, as well as on December 24, 25, and 31, and on January 1, 2024.
Born in Florence in 1982, Giovanni Ozzola currently lives and works in the Canary Islands. The artist expresses his visual language through photography and video, which he combines with ancient techniques such as engraving on slate, mold sculpture, and strappo, a method once used to remove frescoes from walls by transferring them onto canvas.
The artist’s work is marked by radical contrasts between artificial or natural light and darkness, between the subject and space, between the here and the elsewhere, between the human being and their environment. Openings, windows onto intoxicating landscapes or starry skies, are an emblematic motif in his work and represent both a boundary between the inner and outer world, and an invitation for the viewer to move beyond their own physical and cultural reference points, creating connections between introspection and exploration.
Manifattura Tabacchi
