Waterbones

Loris Cecchini

Osservatorio Polifunzionale del Chianti, Barberino Tavarnelle (FI)

May 2023 - November 2023

In May 2023, the work Waterbones by Loris Cecchini was inaugurated at the Chianti Multifunctional Observatory in Barberino Tavarnelle (FI), as part of the Arte nel Paesaggio project curated by Giada Rodani and Jade Vlietstra.

The large installation, displayed in an unusual location, brings to life a vibrant relationship between art, landscape, history, science, and culture. Waterbones is composed of hundreds of steel modules that recall molecular forms found throughout the universe and serve as a memento mori against an idealistic backdrop.

The installation manifests as a rhizomatic structure without a center, allowing the artist to develop it as if it were an organism in space, with a modularity that gives the work the ability to grow with the freedom of a plant or a cell moving through the morphology of a non-Euclidean space. This sculptural-architectural structure finds its essence in direct interaction with the surrounding environment, playing with forms of abstraction and geometry and exploring scientific and philosophical themes related to natural creation and spontaneous proliferation.
