This exhibition focuses on our ability to adapt to present conditions, as well as on humanity’s ongoing needs to rethink desirable and necessary materials that are becoming depleted. Reinvention becomes inevitable as a principle of adaptation—an idea that applies to many animalier prints that imitate and reinvent animal skins no longer in use. By designing costumes for animals made from a local and contemporary material—leather—Kadyrova brings balance to reasonableness through the principle of the absurd, pushing it to the breaking point by reversing the roles of prey and predator in the animal chain. She explores desire, luxury, fashion, and the concept of clothing.
