A Constructed World

A Constructed World is a collaborative project founded in 1993 by Australian artists Geoff Lowe and Jacqueline Riva, currently based in Paris. Their work focuses on the idea of collectivity and the exploration of the multiple narratives we use to construct and understand the world. Influenced by post-structuralism and relational aesthetics, they encourage the exchange of ideas and embrace the concept of chaos, examining how reality is perceived through cultural models.

In 2000, they participated in the fifth edition of Arte all’Arte, invited by curators Roberto Pinto and Gilda Williams, with the video installation History 3 in a room overlooking one of the city's most tourist-frequented streets, the local headquarters of the Center for Classical Studies in Via San Giovanni in San Gimignano, creating a place where visitors are invited to enter and linger.

The work of A Constructed World is characterized by a broad project that challenges conventional structures, maintaining an interactive approach to matter, materials, and the way meaning accumulates. Their interest in creating vocal material, proceeding without knowing, and using the ready-to-hand is reflected in their performances, installations, and events. They enjoy the company of others and often invite friends and colleagues to participate in works and conversations in an attempt to counteract the restrictive discourses and tedious processes that currently pervade the space of culture and politics. In 2018, édition Mix published Idéologie & A Constructed World, a book of their complete writings. The more than forty texts make the artist's overall ideology evident, providing a background context for their broader project of inclusion, collaboration, and bringing people together. A Constructed World continues to explore the dynamics of collectivity and communication, creating works that challenge conventions and invite the public to reflect on the narrative and cultural structures that influence our perception of reality.
