2023 Loris Cecchini for UMoCA

Arranging Proximities 29 October 2023 - 17 September 2024

Associazione Arte Continua celebrated on Sunday 29 October 2024 Loris Cecchini with the new exhibition Arranging Proximities in the spaces of UMoCA - Under Museum of Contemporary Art, in Colle di Val d'Elsa, a project curated by Cai Guo-Qiang.

One of the best-known artists on the international scene, Cecchini works by balancing a scientific approach and a poetic vision of Nature. The central theme of his works are in fact the natural elements and an accurate study of spatiality:

"Today, I pursue the space of sculpture and environmental installation following an idea of parcelling out matter, almost a form of molecular deflagration of sculpture, in which scientific phenomenology becomes an intimate structure and conduit for vision" - Loris Cecchini

UMoCA - Under Museum of Contemporary Art, realised by Cai Guo-Qiang, was inaugurated with an exhibition by Ni-Tsai Cin (2001) on the occasion of Arte all'Arte VI and later hosted an exhibition by artist Jennifer Wen Ma (2005), and finally the exhibition Colour Still by Kiki Smith (2011): at the end of the latter exhibition the three works - Yellow Girl, Blue Girl, Red Girl - were donated by the artist to the municipalities of San Gimignano, Poggibonsi and Colle di Val d'Elsa respectively.

In October 2022, Associazione Arte Continua celebrated the reopening of UMoCA after its restoration with an exhibition dedicated to Marisa and Mario Merz, thus rekindling the neon sign that marks the museum's presence in the territory and links it to its natural, historical and cultural context, in dialogue with the citizens and visitors, according to Cai Guo-Qiang's vision.
